Official Launch of Eden Handy-CABThe Eden Handy-CAB, two specially manufactured vehicles for the transportation of wheelchair users, was officially launched by the Rt. Hon. Mr Lim Guan Eng, the Chief Minister of Penang, at Gurney Plaza, on Sunday, 31 July, 2011.The two Toyota vehicles were acquired at a cost of RM95,000 for the Toyota Ractis and RM150,000 for the Toyota Noah. They have to be imported from Japan for which Approved Permits were required. The launch of these vehicles is a realisation of the dream of Eden General Manager Bertie Tye, who had persevered in getting the vehicles into the country despite numerous rejections from the licensing bodies. With the launch, Eden Handicap is now able to provide Dial-A-Ride services for wheelchair users. The Handy-CAB is operated on Mondays to Fridays from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm and on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. The Eden Handy-CAB is provided free of charge to wheelchair users on a first come first served basis. Priority is accorded to those who need to go to the hospital on Penang Island to seek medical treatment. Eden welcomes contributions and donations to help in the maintenance of the two vehicles. Those who wish to contribute may contact Ms Elreen Wong at 04 229 5648 and make cheques payable to "Eden Handicap Service Centre Bhd". The following are some of the photos taken during the launch.
